When Jamison joined UC Davis Football through Team IMPACT in May 2024, he gained new teammates, and he gained additional family. From the very first meeting, when the entire room erupted in cheers just for him, Jamison felt the kind of support and belonging every kid deserves. And at the center of that welcome was Connor Bonesio, a teammate who quickly became a trusted friend and mentor.
Jamison was diagnosed with leukemia in December 2022 and has faced some tough moments throughout his treatment journey. But having the UC Davis Football team—especially Connor—by his side has brought joy, confidence, and a strong sense of inclusion into his life. Whether it’s cheering on the sidelines or sharing meals with the team, Jamison feels like one of the guys. “Connor has been an amazing mentor and friend and someone I really look up to, not just as a great football player but as a great person,” Connor said. “He has helped me feel part of the team and make sure I’m included.”
Connor’s support hasn’t stopped at the field. He’s shown up through texts, check-ins, celebrations, and moments that mattered most—especially when Jamison was in the hospital or undergoing tough treatments. He’s helped Jamison feel seen, valued, and part of something bigger. “He makes sure Jamison is included in everything and always checks in,” Sara shared. “Connor really goes above and beyond.”
When Team IMPACT opened nominations for Teammate of the Year, Jamison knew exactly who he wanted to recognize. From day one, Connor has been more than just a teammate—he’s been a true friend. Jamison made a nomination video that captures the special bond they’ve built and the impact Connor has had on Jamison and his entire family.
One of the most unforgettable moments was when the team hosted an end-of-treatment celebration right on the field for Jamison—an event full of love, joy, and gratitude. Some teammates even joined the family afterward for a backyard BBQ, making lasting memories well beyond the game. “On my last day of treatment, the whole team did a big celebration for me, and Connor kept including me in different things with all the tight ends,” Jamison said. “It was really cool and fun to be a part of. Connor is someone I really look up to, and he is very deserving of this award.”
For Jamison, this isn’t just about football—it’s about friendship, support, and feeling like he belongs. And for his family, it meant everything to be embraced so fully by the UC Davis community.
Thanks to Connor and the entire UC Davis Football team, Jamison doesn’t just wear the jersey—he wears the pride of being part of a team that truly cares. Their bond is one that will last long after the final whistle.
