When Elias joined the Southwestern University men’s soccer team through Team IMPACT in January of 2024, he didn’t just find a group of teammates—he found a role model, a supporter, and a true friend in Raghav Sharma.
Elias lives with Leukemia (B-ALL), and though his journey hasn’t been easy, one thing that’s made it brighter is the bond he’s built with Raghav. From the very start, Raghav has shown up—not just as a teammate, but as someone who listens, laughs, and lifts Elias up in every way possible.

“Elias loves to spend time with Raghav because he is so cool,” Elias’ mom, Daniella, shared. “He plays with him, takes time to be with him and hear him, cheers him, and they both make each other laugh.” Whether it’s texts, funny videos, or hanging out at practices and games, Raghav makes sure Elias feels seen and valued.
Raghav has gone above and beyond as a mentor, teammate, and friend; so when Team IMPACT began collecting nominations for Teammate of the Year, Elias and his family knew without hesitation that Raghav was the teammate they had in mind.
That kind of consistency and care has made a real impact. “He is so supportive, caring, funny, polite, and attentive with Elias,” Daniella said. “Every single time we get to spend time with him is a special one, from practices to eating and watching other sports.”
Daniella shared that every interaction with the team leaves Elias “beyond happy,” and that the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. Over time, Elias has built a genuine sense of belonging and camaraderie with the team—he truly feels like he is one of them. Recently, his family has seen him grow even more confident, especially during team hangouts where he takes initiative and lights up with joy.
And it’s not just Elias who’s benefited. His siblings have become part of the Southwestern soccer family too, forming their own connections with the players. Together, Elias and his brothers have developed a deep love for soccer thanks to their time with the team—watching, learning, and playing together.

One of the most memorable moments came when Elias was able to help break down a team huddle, counting and speaking in English. These moments matter. With each interaction, Elias practices his English—whether through videos or in-person conversations—and the team is always there to support and encourage him.
While Raghav has made a lasting impression on Elias, this friendship has also brought so much joy to Elias’ entire family. “The whole team and coach have been super supportive and kind, but this guy has done so much for Elias and our family,” Daniella shared.
Through all the moments—big and small—what shines the most is the authenticity of their connection. Raghav doesn’t just show up—he shows up with heart. Whether Elias is having a tough day or full of energy, Raghav meets him with patience and kindness.

Team IMPACT is built on connection, inclusion, and heart—and the friendship between Elias and Raghav is proof of that. Thanks to Raghav Sharma and the Southwestern University men’s soccer team, Elias doesn’t just feel like a fan or a visitor—he knows what it’s like to be truly part of the team.
