But she also shared another reality that shapes&nbsp;every day of&nbsp;Massi\u2019s life:&nbsp;\u201cHe also has cystic fibrosis.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Stacey Armato Game Day Gala Speech\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2XlYzRxX6E4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For families living with&nbsp;cystic fibrosis (CF), childhood often looks different than expected. CF is a chronic disease that affects&nbsp;the respiratory&nbsp;and digestive systems. It requires&nbsp;daily and life-long&nbsp;treatments, medications,&nbsp;appointments, and&nbsp;care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time Massi was six years old,&nbsp;he had already endured multiple surgeries, long hospital stays, and ambulance rides Stacey wishes she could forget.&nbsp;Despite the physical pain caused by CF, the&nbsp;things&nbsp;that affected Massi the most, his mom said, was the exclusion from things he loved\u2014like soccer.&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cHe&nbsp;was sitting on the sideline at his own soccer games,\u201d she said, \u201cbecause he was coughing so&nbsp;hard&nbsp;he couldn\u2019t catch his breath,&nbsp;watching his teammates play.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was always Massi\u2019s goal to get back&nbsp;on&nbsp;the soccer field. What he&nbsp;didn\u2019t&nbsp;anticipate&nbsp;is that&nbsp;he\u2019d&nbsp;see that goal come to life alongside the UCLA Bruins\u2014at the same school where his dad was a student-athlete years earlier.&nbsp;\u201cWhen the match came through\u2014UCLA men\u2019s soccer\u2014something shifted in Massi,\u201d Stacey said. \u201cThe cloud that CF sometimes puts over his life just\u2026lifted.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Massi, the thing that always made him feel&nbsp;<em>different<\/em>&nbsp;now made him feel&nbsp;<em>special<\/em>. He got to go to the campus he loves at the college&nbsp;he&nbsp;loves to play the sport he loves with the teammates he loves. His time with the Bruins allowed him the space to think of his life outside of his diagnosis.&nbsp;<strong>\u201cOn the days Massi was with the UCLA soccer team, he didn\u2019t think about his treatments,\u201d Stacey&nbsp;said. \u201cHe&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;a kid with CF. He trained with them on the field. His teammates even&nbsp;started staying&nbsp;late after&nbsp;practice&nbsp;just to pass the soccer ball with him. His teammates showed up to Massi\u2019s own soccer tournament where they \u201ccheered like it was the World Cup final,\u201d Stacey said. Massi and some of the members of his youth team were ball boys at a UCLA soccer game. A family.&nbsp;An identity that had nothing to do with being sick and everything to do with being part of something bigger than himself.\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And what Massi&nbsp;gave&nbsp;the UCLA soccer team is something that will change their program forever.&nbsp;\u201cWhat struck me most,\u201d she&nbsp;said, \u201cwas how much it felt like those players needed Massi too.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a feeling, Stacey says, that will stick with both Massimo and the Bruins soccer program long after Massi\u2019s graduation.&nbsp;\u201cThe best part of this whole story?\u201d Stacey said. \u201cThe match&nbsp;didn\u2019t&nbsp;end. Those guys feel like family.&nbsp;<strong>And I think&nbsp;that\u2019s&nbsp;the beauty of Team IMPACT\u2014the ability to translate the power of human connection into something a ten-year-old boy can
